Still from light journal

films, flicks, and tuners

A passion for watching (and re-watching) films has become a career as I pursue my teaching and research interests in film history and stylistics at the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. I am equally trained in Laban Movement Analysis, and its sharpening of my powers of observation keeps me marveling at the subtleties of human movement and perception. My interests in cooking, drink chemistry, reading, dancing, yoga, photography, and visual design keep me centered.

figure movement research

My movement and mindfulness training provides the foundation for my analytical research methods, but it has broader applications as well. I co-direct the movement visualization lab, housed at the University of Illinois, and serve as the movement analysis specialist for the Media Ecology Project, based at Dartmouth College.

current media obsessions

Maximum Fun podcasts, Danger 5, "Off Book: The Improvised Musical" podcast, industrial musicals (The Bathrooms are Coming!), Riyoko Ikeda's The Rose of Versailles, and comedic choreographer David Armand.
